Education fund auction Nov. 18

Woman’s Press Club of Indiana members will gather in McCordsville Nov. 18 for the annual auction to benefit the club’s education fund.

All members bring new or gently used items for the auction. Past auction bidders have snagged brand new items such as gift sets, china, car gear and gadgets; gently used handbags, pottery and holiday items; and theater tickets or passes to entertainment and historical venues.

WPCI member Fred Granger has served as auctioneer for several years, and members report the bidding can be fast and furious. Member Margaret Nelson’s prize-winning cookies often generate a blitz of heavy and high bidding, for example.

The club’s education fund supports two scholarships and one grant award. The application process for the scholarships and grants begins in spring. The club honors the recipients at the annual awards banquet. Last year’s auction netted more than $1,000.
