Larry Sweazy to lead writing workshop

Woman’s Press Club of Indiana will host a writing workshop featuring Indiana-based writer Larry Sweazy at 11 a.m. March 16 at the Indianapolis Public Library College Avenue Branch, 4180 N. College Ave., Indianapolis.

Sweazy frequently conducts workshops for aspiring and established writers. For this session, he will discuss topics ranging from putting thoughts on paper to marketing your writing, said Becky Killian, WPCI secretary who is organizing the workshop. The event is open to all.

Sweazy draws from his own experiences as author of 20 books, 19 novels and a short story collection, including the Trusty Dawson series, U.S. Deputy Marshal Westerns, the Sonny Burton series, the Josiah Wolfe Westerns and the Marjorie Trumaine mysteries.

His work has garnered numerous awards and prizes, such as the Western Writers of America Spur award for Best Short Fiction, the Will Rogers Medallion Award for Western Fiction and Best Books of Indiana.

In 2013, Sweazy received the inaugural Elmer Kelton Fiction Book of the Year for The Coyote Tracker, presented by the Academy of Western Artists. He also won the 2019 Willa Award and was shortlisted for 2020 Indiana Authors Award. In 2020, he won the Peacemaker Best Western Award for The Return of the Wolf.
