WPCI celebrates contest winners, top awards

Woman’s Press Club of Indiana celebrated its members’ achievements and honored scholarship recipients during the annual awards luncheon May 14, 2016, at Hollyhock Hill in Indianapolis.

Top awards included:

Elizabeth Granger, Communicator of Achievement. She will compete with other affiliates’ COAs at the National Federation of Press Women conference in September. This is her third COA award from WPCI, and she previously was a runner up at the national level.

Fred Granger, Kate Milner Rabb Award. This award honors a member who has made outstanding contributions to the club. Granger has served as scholarship committee chair and helps out as auctioneer during the annual education fund auction.

Gabby McLemore and Tory Ziege, both IU seniors, won Hortense Myers Scholarships for their work as student journalists. McLemore and her family and friends attended but Ziege was in Chile for a class trip.

Margaret Bauer, who could not attend, won the Louise Eleanor Ross Kleinhenz Scholarship. She has taken on teaching journalism and advising student publications as a second career and will use the scholarship for training.

Individual professional members won for their previously submitted work from last year. The first place winners will compete at the national level and will receive honors during the NFPW conference.

In the high school contest, coordinator Elizabeth Granger reported that of the 179 entries from Indiana high schoolers, 17 first place winners will compete at the national level. Those results also will be announced at the conference.
