25 entries take first-place honors

Woman’s Press Club of Indiana will celebrate winners in its annual communications contest at a banquet May 6 in Indianapolis.

“The contest drew 47 entries from around the state, and of those, 25 won first-place honors,” said Gena Asher, WPCI contest chair. “It speaks so highly of the quality of our entries that more than half were the best in their categories.”

Categories range from all forms of writing, from print to blogs to books, as well as videos, podcasts and public relations campaigns. The contest is open to men and women, members and non-members, professionals and college students. WPCI offers a high school contest as well later in the year.

Members’ work that won first-place will compete on the national stage for top honors at the National Federation of Press Women conference June 22-24 in Cincinnati. WPCI is a founding affiliate of NFPW, and it forwards its top entries to compete with those of other affiliates each year.

WPCI also gained three new members as a result of the contest: professionals Cathy Shouse and Diane Moore and college student Owen Hnatyshyn. All three will see their work advance to the national stage as well.

“Our contest shows the breadth of accomplishment our talented communicators can achieve,” Asher said. “At the banquet, the audience always is wowed when they hear about our entrants’ work as they receive their awards.”

Details on the banquet are forthcoming. Check the Upcoming Events page for details.
