Contest opens Oct. 1; deadline Jan. 9

Those interested in showing off their best work in the annual Woman’s Press Club of Indiana’s annual communication contest should mark their calendars for deadlines that are a bit earlier than previous years.

The contest opens Oct. 1 with a deadline of Jan. 9, 2019, for most work. Entries must have been published, posted or broadcast Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2018. You do not have to be a WPCI member to enter, and the contest is open to men and women who are Indiana residents or students.

The National Federation of Press Women, of which WPCI is an affiliate, will host its annual conference June 27-29, 2019, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, earlier than its fall date of the last several years. NFPW announces winners of the national contest at this conference, so WPCI’s contest also will follow these earlier dates.

Here’s what entrants need to know:

  • Contest opens for entries Oct. 1. Enter all work on the NFPW website.
  • Work must have been published, posted or broadcast in calendar year 2018.
  • Deadline is Jan. 9, 2019.
  • WPCI members pay $20 for the first entry, $15 for successive entries. Nonmembers are welcome to enter. Their fees are $25 for the first entry and $20 for successive entries.
  • You may enter Jan. 10-22, but those entries are considered “late” and will incur a one-time $25 fee in addition to entry fees above.
  • The newly revised NFPW website lists all the categories and other details.

WPCI members’ work that earns first place at the affiliate level will compete at the national level, and winners are announced at the NFPW conference. Nonmembers’ work does not move on to the national contest, but nonmembers may join WPCI by Feb. 19 to ensure their work is considered at the national contest as well.
