Club mourns Ohmart

WPCI member Joline Nelson Moore Ohmart, 94, Indianapolis, died Oct. 30.

A woman of many interests, Ohmart was described by her family as a lifelong learner. Born in Hutchinson, Kansas, Dec. 17, 1927, she attended Stephens College, then graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. She spent five years in radio: one in her hometown (KWBW) and four years in Dallas, Texas (KIXL).

In 1967, Ohmart moved to Indianapolis and worked for the Federal Home Loan Bank for four years, then joined Midwest National Bank where she progressed from executive secretary to vice president and chief financial officer. She transitioned into real estate with Broad Ripple Realty and REMAX. In 2014, she joined Keller Williams’ Evelo Team, where she closed on her last home sale in 2018 at age 91.

Ohmart was elected and served for seven years as the Washington Township assessor.

She was an avid musician and an inventor who held several patents. She had written two books, unpublished, one about parenting and one as part of a website project about her experiences with the “glass ceiling” she encountered during her years in business.

In addition to her active membership in WPCI, Ohmart served on numerous boards and committees, including Optimist Club, Seratoma, Pi Beta Phi, Scientech, Indiana and Greater Indianapolis Women’s Political Caucuses, National Association of Professional Inventors and the Indianapolis Musicians Union.

Services were Dec. 2 in Indianapolis.
