Gena Asher

I spent half my career as a reporter at the (Bloomington, Ind.) Herald-Times, covering business, news and enterprise stories. The other half was at Indiana University’s School of Journalism, now The Media School, where I was digital content manager, overseeing websites and the school’s social media platforms. As part of the professional communications team, I produced print and digital materials for the organization.

My team of student employees produced print, digital and video stories for the school news website. Working with students was richly rewarding, and I learned a lot. In addition to this “day job,” I was an adjunct professor in journalism for 13 years, teaching reporting and writing, news website development and ethics.

My freelance work includes writing for Consumer Reports and Parenting, among others. I have produced content and launched websites for several entities, including the Environmental Resilience Institute at Indiana University, Woman’s Press Club of Indiana and Bloomington Press Club.

I am a grammar snob, and the AP Stylebook is my bible. I love editing, but I also am interested in finding strategies to develop big stories and bring them to an audience. (See me on LinkedIn.)

My own goals include becoming more proficient in video editing, especially using Adobe Premiere (my nemesis). Email me at info@wpcindiana.org.
