Scholarships and Awards


Woman’s Press Club of Indiana’s Education Fund provides scholarships and other awards each year to professional members and college students. The application process is in spring each year.

Hortense Myers Scholarship, $1,000
Former UPI Statehouse reporter Myers is remembered by her colleagues on the beat and in the journalism classroom as a fair but relentless reporter who sought the truth in every story she pursued.

Louise Eleanor Ross Kleinhenz Scholarships, $500
This award is in memory of Louise Eleanor Ross Kleinhenz, a 45-year-member of Woman’s Press Club of Indiana who served the organization as president, historian and Bulletin editor before her death in 1977.

Julie and Gene Slaymaker Public Service to Journalism Award, $500
This honors a male or female professional journalist or student who has provided public service to journalism in the past year. The applicant must provide documentation from the recipient of the public service.

Elizabeth and Fred Granger Travel Journalism Scholarship Grant, $500
This award honors Indiana journalists working in travel journalism. The scholarship/grant may be used for further education through courses or seminars, travel or lodging to such seminars, personal equipment, or other expenses tied to enhancing the applicant’s travel journalism experience.

  • Eligibility: Published travel writers, published photographers, editors, and public relations individuals working on behalf of travel destinations who have worked in the field at least three years.

Joan Bey History Award
This award is presented to a person or organization exhibiting dedication and devotion to preserving the rich history of the Woman’s Press Club of Indiana or for history writing or preservation. Previous winners include Joan Bey and the Indiana Historical Society.
