Scholarships and Grants
Woman's Press Club of Indiana's Education Fund provides scholarships for high school and college students using the guidelines set forth by the National Federation of Press Women.
Here are the scholarships and amounts:
- Hortense Myers Scholarship, $500. College juniors are eligible. Former UPI statehouse reporter Myers is remembered by her colleagues on the beat and in the journalism classroom as a fair but relentless reporter who sought the truth in every story she pursued.
- Louise Eleanor Ross Kleinhenz Scholarships, $500. This is for mature Indiana women desiring to upgrade their skills in order to re-enter the journalism job market or to upgrade positions in that field. This award is in memory of Louise Eleanor Ross Kleinhenz, a 45-year-member of Woman's Press Club of Indiana who served the organization as president, historian and Bulletin editor before her death in 1977.
- Katie Picket Memorial Scholarship, for one high school student, $500.
- Florence Jaus Scholarship for one high school student, $250.
- Additional WPCI funding for high school students, two at $250.
- Mary Lee Betty M. Cull Memorial Scholarship for one high school student, $50.
WPCI's Education Board directs the scholarship program. Fundraisers throughout the year, including a white elephant sale in the fall, support these programs.
