WPCI honors achievers

Members of the Woman's Press Club of Indiana honored their own May 16 at the annual communications banquet at Rosemont Inn at Vevay, Ind.
In alphabetical order, here are the winners:
- Ann Allen Ann Allen won two first-place awards and a certificate celebrating 40 years of membership.
- Gena Asher won a second-place award, two third-place awards and two honorable mentions.

- Shirley Bushey won a first-place award for columns and a 20-year membership certificate.
- Lilian H. Carmer won three first-place awards, four second-place awards and three honorable mentions, as well as a 25-year certificate.
- Ruth Chin won a first-place award.
- Helen E. Corey won a first-place award.
- Stephanie Taylor Ferriell won four first-place awards, two second-place awards and a third-place award.
- Jackie Sheckler Finch won four first-place awards and three second-place awards.
- Elizabeth Granger won seven first-place awards, three second-place awards and an honorable mention to capture the Honeycomb award, which goes to the person with the most points based on overall awards.
- Rebecca D. Manley won a second-place award.
- Margaret Nelson won an honorable mention for special articles, religion, and a 30-year membership certificate.
- Joline Ohmart won first- and second-place awards for editorial opinion, The Indianapolis Star.
- Donna Penticuff won six first-place awards.
- Rita Rose won first for young-adult fiction.
- Julie Slaymaker won two first-place awards, two second-place awards, a third-place award and an honorable mention.
All first-place entries have been sent on to the National Federation of Press Women for judging in the national contest. Winners will be announced Sept. 12 at the annual conference, this year in San Antonio, Texas.
